HOUSE OF REPS RECEIVES PROPOSAL TO CHANGE NIGERIA’S NAME TO UAR A proposal to change Nigeria’s name to United African Republic has been received by the House of Representatives Special Committee on Constitution Review. The proposal was submitted by Adeleye Jokotoye, a tax consultant to the committee at the South West zonal public hearing in Lagos. According to Jokotoye, the name ‘Nigeria’ was imposed on the country in the colonial era, hence it should be changed. Jokotoye also explained that he chose ‘United Africa Republic’ because the country is made up of hundreds of ethnic groups that need to be United. He also suggested as an alternative, ‘United Alkebulan Republic’ (Alkebulan means ‘mother of mankind’).

Ezeife: IPOB Not Behind Attacks In South-east — Igbo Don’t Shed Blood  Chukwuemeka Ezeife, former governor of Anambra state, says the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) are not behind the violent attacks in the south-east. There have been several attacks on police stations, prisons and the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the south-east. Security operatives and residents have been killed, and in a recent development, Ahmed Gulak, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, was murdered in Imo on May 30. Speaking when he featured on Arise TV on Wednesday, Ezeife said investigation carried out by elders in the south-east revealed that such attacks are designed to provoke Igbo people. UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA EXPELS 46 STUDENTS OVER ACTS OF MISCONDUCT   No fewer than 46 students of the University of Abuja have been expelled by Senate for their involvement in various acts of misconduct in breach of their sworn matriculation oath.  Five other students were rusticated for one semester, the cases of three others involved in sundry offences would be retried, while seven accused persons were exonerated, discharged and acquitted. Senate at its 175th Regular Meeting held on Thursday 27th May 2021, considered the report and recommendations of the Students Disciplinary Committee, and after due diligence, approved the  expulsion, rustication, retrial  and exoneration of the affected students. The expelled students cut across several departments. While 15 of the students were in their 400 level; 20 were in 300 level; eight, 200 level; and three, 100 level.
